Being a Human is hard sometimes...

Tips for managing your human experience as a spiritual being

Greetings!

As promised, this is a place where we will talk about all things magic, spirituality, higher consciousness, connection, rituals, and more. But since we are spiritual beings having a HUMAN experience, sometimes, we’ll talk about that too. And to be frank –

Being a human is hard.

When I find myself getting caught up in the chaos of life – the stress of work, the challenge of experiencing a full spectrum of emotions, and the genuine struggle of being a spiritual being that is having a human experience – coming back to the magic of everyday moments always helps me to reconnect.

That means getting out of my head and coming back into my body.

I think it’s easy to underestimate the power of connecting with the body, and the wisdom that’s held in these sacred vessels we’ve been blessed with. We often think that our power rests in our mental space, so that’s where we spend our time. But when we get caught in anxiety spirals, patterns of rumination, or mental blocks of any kind, coming back to the body is a powerful way to come back to balance.

A few simple tips for embodiment:

  1. Go outside and stick your feet in the dirt. Breathe in the fresh air, feel the sunshine, or rain, or cold wind on your skin. Look up at the sky or out at the horizon and use your senses to bring you back to the present moment.

  2. Get in the kitchen and start cooking, or doing the dishes, or wiping the counters. Something that gets you focusing on your surroundings, and taking action with those surroundings.

  3. Shake it out. Jump up and down, twist back and forth, and shake your body all around. Imagine shaking out all that stress and anxiety.

  4. Play your favorite song and just dance.

  5. Unroll your yoga mat and do a few rounds of cat/cow, or curl up in a child’s pose. Focus on your breath. Slow it down. Slow, mindful, deep breaths.

Our work in this world is about finding balance between the physical world and the spiritual world. Although I often wish I could spend all my time caught up in the magic of the intangible, sometimes what I really need is the magic of the little, everyday moments that remind of of the joy that comes with being a human.

To have a body is a gift. If you don’t already have a regular embodiment practice in your life, find one. Personally, I’m a fan of yoga, so those are the resources I’m going to share.

If you’re local to Southwest Florida (or you’re ever in the area visiting) come take a class at my studio, Heart Space Yoga Collective.

Or, build a Personal Practice at Home with teachers on YouTube

Make sure you eat nourishing meals. Get plenty of sleep. Drink your water. Move your body. Connect with someone face-to face. Because here’s the thing… the human experience requires our time and attention, too.

Stay grounded my friends.
